How does funding or credits at my university work?
Nearly every department has an undergraduate research course number (much like an independent study). Speak to your faculty advisor about signing up for credit, grading procedures, etc. Research can also be a job under work-study. Funding may be available through the individual research advisor. Funding is also available through SURG, ISURG, Undergraduate Research Summer Fellowship.

Who's eligible for these grants?
You are eligible for SURG if you are:
- A CMU undergraduate student - including freshmen - in a degree-granting program;
- Going to be enrolled during the semester of your grant for Fall or Spring awards, or the semester following your grant for Summer awards;
- In good academic standing (not on probation, leave of absence or suspension);
The International Small Undergraduate Research Grant (ISURG) is a brand-new 2008-09 program at Carnegie Mellon for students who are planning to study/travel abroad to apply for funds to support a research project while they are abroad. The eligibility criteria are the same as those for SURG.
